About the project
Once a shadowed relic despite its front-row position on the Bushman’s River, House De Wet has been reimagined into a light-filled retreat that fully embraces its extraordinary setting
“We knew from the start that the location was gold – but the original house just didn’t do it justice. By opening up the plan and letting the light in, we gave the home a new lease on life. It’s now all about the view, the river, and the experience of space.”
~ Chris Hattingh, Director Fluid Architects
What began as a dark, compartmentalised structure has been completely transformed. Walls were removed, layouts reconfigured, and natural light invited in – flooding the home with openness and warmth. Every design decision has been made to celebrate the view, not compete with it.
Now, expansive glazing frames the river beyond, while open-plan living ensures a continuous visual and spatial flow throughout. The result is a home that feels effortless, modern, and deeply connected to its landscape.
House De Wet stands as a bold reinvention – proof that the right intervention can turn an outdated space into something timelessly fresh, fantastic and functional.
